Hello everyone! My name is Becky and I'm a contributor at Houzz, a home design site focused on helping design professionals and homeowners manage the remodeling and decorating process. Thanks so much to Loom Decor for having me!
Do you shudder at the idea of buying your bedscape from a "Bed in a Bag"? There are tons of customizing options out there, and often they are not any more expensive than buying a duvet, sheets, throw pillows, shams and sheets retail (ahem, check out our host Loom Decor for an affordable custom alternative!). Here are a three tips from interior designers for making your bedroom your own with custom bedding.
1. Match the curtains to the skirt ... and the shams. While the hotel-style sheets on this bed were bought retail, the skirt, Euro shams and curtains were custom-made. This allowed for the finishing touch of dark piping that coordinates with the headboard and the blanket.
2. Add unique trimwork to your pillows. Mad for plaid? Why not add a few inches of it around your shams? You can also add a print as a border, like you see on this throw pillow. The finishing touch is a monogram, front and center, for an added personal touch.
3. Create a custom headboard with the same fabric you use on the bedding. This custom oversized bolster is a perfect match for the upholstered headboard. Another item you can match up is a bedskirt. The complete look gives this inviting bedroom a coordinated look without feeling too matchy-matchy.
